Empowering Careers Through Social Media

In May 2025, Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) hosted an insightful Skill Share session led by Evgeniya Vyaltseva, Social Media Manager, and JJ de Swardt, Associate Director of Marketing & Communications at Mace Group.

This remote session brought together a diverse audience, including Get Set Progress interns, employment seekers, students, Sight Loss Council volunteers, and TPT staff, all eager to refine their understanding of social media.

Mace Group, a global leader in shaping the built environment, is driving positive change towards a more connected, resilient, and sustainable world.

Sharing Skills, Inspiring Futures

For the second year running, Evgeniya and JJ generously volunteered their time and expertise to help blind and partially sighted individuals learn how to harness the power of social media, both personally and professionally.

The session offered:

  • A comprehensive overview of major platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter/X
  • Insights into platform demographics, usage statistics, and content styles
  • A deep dive into how algorithms work and how to optimise posts for better visibility
  • Practical tips on consistency, authenticity, and engagement
  • Guidance on LinkedIn profile optimisation for professional networking
  • First-hand insights into career journeys in social media and communications

The session was interactive, informative, and very well received by attendees.

Reflections from the Presenters

Evgeniya Vyaltseva shared:

“Delivering this educational session was a truly rewarding experience. I was deeply inspired by the great questions and vibrant discussion we had after the session, which showcased the participants’ eagerness to enhance their LinkedIn profiles and stand out in their professional pursuits. Witnessing their enthusiasm and engagement was immensely gratifying. Thank you for the opportunity, and I wish all the participants continued success in their journey towards achieving their career and personal goals.”

JJ de Swardt added:

“Presenting for Thomas Pocklington Trust was a fantastic opportunity for our team. Not only were we able to share our knowledge and skills, but we also learned a lot in the process of creating and presenting to those who may have reduced sight or blindness. The experience was both enriching and enlightening, and it taught us the importance of accessibility and inclusion in all aspects of our work. It was an honour to collaborate with TPT and we are grateful for the opportunity to have made a positive impact. We look forward to future collaborations and continued learning in this area.”

A Note of Thanks

Jen Sweeney, Corporate Engagement Manager at TPT, commented:

“Huge thanks to Evgeniya and JJ for taking the time to prepare and present this wonderful session for a second year.  The online Skill Share was really engaging, packed with information on all things social. Sharing an overview of what it’s like to work in a social media role was inspiring, and I’m sure it will get participants thinking about future career paths. The practical tips were useful for everyone, I learned so many new tips and tricks too!”
