As a volunteer, you’ll contribute to meaningful change through community engagement, advocacy and support, helping to address real challenges and improve lives.

  • Sight Loss Councils

Overview: The Sight Loss Council Member volunteer role empowers blind and partially sighted individuals to influence positive change by representing their community’s voice in areas like transport, the built environment, health and inclusion in local cultural, leisure and retail venues. Members contribute lived experience, engage in local consultations, attend monthly meetings and support campaigns to improve services and accessibility, while gaining valuable skills, training and opportunities to make a meaningful impact. See full role description.

  • Student Voices

Overview: Student Voices (SV) is open to blind and partially sighted students aged 16+ who are currently in education. Whether you’re in college, university, studying part-time or full-time, in the UK or abroad, you can get involved. As a Student Voice, you’ll have the chance to shape our education work, share your experiences and build skills that will benefit your studies and career. Opportunities are flexible to fit around your schedule and you can stay involved for as long as you’re in education. See full role description.

  • Young Voices

Overview: Young Voices (YV) is for blind and partially sighted young people aged 13–16 who want to make a difference while developing valuable skills for the future. The group works together on exciting projects, currently in sport and retail, while also gaining experience through meetings, residential weekends, and speaking opportunities. YV is a structured programme that helps you grow in confidence and leadership, with support from two Young Voices Young Leaders. Recruitment happens in cycles, so if you’re interested, you can register your interest to be part of the next group. See full role description.

  • Sighted Guides

Overview: The Sighted Guide Volunteer role offers a unique opportunity to support blind and partially sighted individuals in their advocacy and community work by safely guiding them to and during meetings, events and activities. As a sighted guide, you’ll play a vital part in helping volunteers carry out their roles effectively, while gaining valuable insight into sight loss, building connections and receiving training in guiding techniques and disability awareness.
