We at Thomas Pocklington Trust wish to pay tribute to the legacy of Eva Schloss, Holocaust survivor and stepsister of Anne Frank, who passed away Saturday 3 January 2026. She co-founded the Anne Frank Trust who generously gifted us Braille editions of The Diary of a Young Girl, which we publicised on yesterday’s World Braille Day.
For blind and partially sighted readers, Braille is more than raised dots—it is independence, dignity, and the power to own a story. Anne Frank wrote her diary to be heard in a world that tried to silence her. Today, her words can be felt and explored by thousands who read through touch, a profound act of inclusion.
Though only 7% of blind people in the UK read Braille, that is over 152,000 individuals—a stadium of readers who cherish the tactile certainty of a book in their hands. This donation reflects a shared commitment to challenge prejudice and ensure equal access to stories that shape us.
Eva Schloss spent her life speaking against hatred and for hope. This gift ensures Anne’s voice—and Eva’s mission—continue to resonate, in every dot, every page, every hand that reads.
